Introduction to the PG Sturling League

The PG Sturling League, hosted at the Prince George Golf & Curling Club, is a dynamic curling league that has seen exceptional growth since its inception.
Initially launched in the fall of 2018 with just 14 teams, the league has expanded exponentially, and now boasts 80 teams playing in 120 draws for the 2024-2025 curling season.

Structure and Schedule

Games are held on four sheets of curling ice and take place on Mondays and Wednesdays. Each day features a robust schedule of six draws, beginning at 8:45am and continuing
at 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:45pm, 2:00pm, and 3:00pm. This meticulous scheduling allows for a smooth flow of games and maximizes the use of the ice sheets.

Sessions and Playoffs

The curling season is thoughtfully divided into two sessions: fall and spring. Each session comprises a seven-game round robin event that culminates in a three-game playoff,
ensuring a competitive and engaging experience for all participants. This structure not only maintains the excitement throughout the season
but also provides teams with ample opportunities to improve and showcase their skills.

Participation Rules

Monday and Wednesday draws use the following rules:

  • People are allowed to sign up for one and/or both sessions.
  • People are allowed to play either Monday or Wednesday or both.
  • People are allowed to play in one and/or two draws a day.

These flexible participation rules cater to the diverse schedules and commitments of the players, making it easier for more people to join the league and participate in the games.

Additional Opportunities

Additionally, on Sundays that are not reserved for other events, there are two draws and a three-game cash spiel, further enhancing the league's offerings
and providing ample opportunities for competition and camaraderie among curling enthusiasts. This additional playtime on Sundays ensures that players
have more chances to engage in the sport and enjoy the competitive spirit of the league.

Community and Growth

The growth of the PG Sturling League from 14 teams to 80 teams in a few years is a testament to the community's passion for curling.
The league's inclusive approach, allowing people to sign up for multiple sessions and participate on different days, has played a significant role in this expansion.
The Prince George Golf & Curling Club's commitment to providing a well-organized and competitive environment has also contributed to the league's success.

Impact on Players

The league has positively impacted the players by offering a structured and enjoyable curling experience. The opportunity to participate in multiple games and sessions allows players to develop their skills
and form lasting bonds with fellow curlers. The competitive nature of the round robin and playoff format keeps the players motivated and engaged throughout the season.
